Martijn Smit got infected with the virus that is called photography at the age of 12. With an old Praktika camera, the principles of photography got a meaning.

Since 1995 he followed cooking courses at Henk Savelberg (Savelberg Restaurant, 1 Michelin star) and Ruben Dieten (Le Cirque, 1 Michelin star, and Brasserie NL)

 

To bring his photographic skills to a higher level, he decided in 2009 to start a study at the Dutch Photo-graphy Academy.

During his education he realized that the combination of gastronomy and photography could have a synergistic effect. The combination of FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY finally brings together his two passions.


I was not very surprising that his graduation project consisted of a series food photographs. He graduated with an excellent final score.

Martijn Smit is now fully specialized in food photography and a member of the SVFN, a Dutch branche organisation for professional photographers . Besides his own food photography he also is a guest lecturer at food photography workshops.
